Evelyn Irene Thompson was born October 6, 1933 to William Yates and Lennis (Guess) Kinyon in rural Story County, Iowa. She married Lloyd Thompson on October 23, 1953. Evelyn was an avid gardener and enjoyed quiet time in her yard watching the birds. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Her family was her pride and joy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, always putting others before herself. She had the most generous, loving heart and touched many lives with her presence. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. Evelyn especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Evelyn passed away at 81 years of age on August 2, 2015 at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines.
Evelyn is survived by two children, Charlotte (Jeffrey) Loots and Greg (Kathy) Thompson, all of Story City; five grandchildren, Carie Burgher of Grimes, Jason (Laura) Loots of Story City, April (Greg) Grams of Ankeny, Maagen (Jim) Argyros of West Des Moines and Crystal (Bart) Doudna of Cedar Rapids; eight great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Brody Burgher, Braylen and May Loots, Natalie and Emery Grams, and Maxx and Mia Argyros; and two sisters, Pauline Pearson of Nevada and Janet Hornbacher of Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd Thompson; her son, Michael Thompson; her granddaughter, Jennifer Loots; her sister, Phyllis Malmin; and a great-granddaughter, Kennedy Burgher.
Private graveside services were held at Mamrelund Cemetery, rural Randall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Trinity Center at Lutheran Park.
