NEVADA – Jean Faye Mensing, 84, of Nevada, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Story Medical Senior Center in Nevada, Iowa.

Jean was born May 3, 1931 at Dows, Iowa, the daughter of Fay and Edith (Meyers) Carpenter. She graduated from Stratford High School in 1949. Jean was united in marriage to Dick G. Mensing at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on September 18, 1950. Dick preceded Jean in death on October 16, 1990. Jean had worked 29 years as a clerk for Scudders Department Store in Nevada.

Jean was a member of Family of Faith Church, ABWA, the American Legion Auxiliary, Ames Area Bowling Hall of Fame, and had served on many Lincoln Highway Days and Fourth of July Committees throughout her life.

Jean is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Dixie and Lyman Bailey of Bellevue, Iowa; her son and daughter-in-law: Dennis and Lori Mensing of Nevada, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother: Albert Carpenter of Webster City, Iowa; and her sister: Julie Handbury of Neola, Iowa.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son in infancy, Michael.

Visitation will be 5 – 8 PM Monday, June 29th, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 30th, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Interment will be 2:00 PM in the Fairview Cemetery at Dows, Iowa.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
