ANOTHER PIONEER LAID TO REST

George Danskin Had Lived in County Over 56 Years.

Colo, Feb. 4 -- The funeral services for the late George Danskin, 88, who died here January 30, were held at the M. E. church Saturday forenoon, conducted by his pastor Rev. Ivan R. Wills. They were largely attended by relatives and old time neighbors and friends. Interment was in the Colo cemetery. He had been resident of Story county for over 56 years and was well and most favorably known as a man of sterling worth and character.

George Danskin, son of James and Lydia Danskin was born August 15, 1835, at Newburg, N. Y. and departed this life at Colo, Iowa, Jan 30, 1924 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 15 days.

Mr. Danskin was the oldest of a family of nine children, six boys and three girls two of whom are left, they being James Danskin of Nevada and Reuben Danskin of Minneapolis, Minn. When a boy he moved to Huntington, Quebec, and later to Chateaugay, Franklin county, N. Y.

In April 1856, he was united in marriage to Mary E. McNeil of Norfolk, N. Y. To this union was born nine children, two of these dying in infancy and three others, Mrs. Roxie Lounsberry, Mrs. Lydia Shaw and James dying after growing to maturity. In 1864 Mr. Danskin moved to Illinois, and three years later came with his family to Story county, first settling on the farm now occupied by John Bloomberg, then removing to what is know as the Walker place, and later to the old homestead, nowoccupied by his son, Clyde. Ten years ago he moved to his late home in Colo.

In April 1879 he was bereft of his companion and in Feb. 1882 he was again married to Elizabeth Clyde of Kingston, Ontario. To this union was born three sons. One son, Roy, died Dec. 26, 1903. Left to mourn their loss are his wife and the following children: Ira Danskin of Laconta, Ia., Mrs. E. G. Keith of LeGrand, Oregon, Mrs. Wm. Eccles of Wall Lake, Ia. (now of Hot Springs, Ark.), Mrs. Earl Sime of Bozeman, Mont., Dr. M. C. Danskin of Glendale, Mont., and Thomas Clyde Danskin of Colo, Ia. In addition to these there is a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces and a host of sympathizing friends and neighbors.

When a young man Mr. Danskin united with the Presbyterian church and after coming to Iowa transferred his membership to the Lutheran church but for the last twenty-seven years has been a faithful member of the Colo M. E,. church and an official member a great part of the time.
