Kenneth W. Bergeson
December 20, 1931 - March 29, 2015

On March 29, 2015, after a long battle with cancer, Kenneth Bergeson left Israel Family Hospice House to live with God.

Visitation will be at Grandon Funeral Home Tuesday, March 31st from 5 - 7 p.m.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday April, 1, 2015 at Ames Calvary United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery

Kenny was born to Benjamin and Florence (Paulson) Bergeson on December 20, 1931 in Story City, IA. He lived in Story City until 8th grade when they moved to Ames. He graduated from Ames High School in 1949. He married Mary H. Harnan on March 31, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He studied and worked as a plumber until he was drafted in to the Army. He did his basic training in Fort Knox, KY before serving in Panama. He and Mary (Mickie) had three children - Cheryl, Michael, and Terri.

In the mid 60s, he and his Dad and brother, Bob, began the business City Plumbing and Heating and remained in business until the mid 80s. Kenny worked for other plumbers after that and then became one of the City of Ames Plumbing Inspectors until retirement in 1997. They then retired and moved to Sun Valley Lake, in southern Iowa, where they fulfilled their dream of having a lake home. They built a home and lived there until 2008, when they felt led to move back to Ames.

He enjoyed many activities - boating, water skiing, snow skiing, swimming, walking, bike riding, and helping do things at his church, as well as at home. In the last seven years, he did competitive badminton and made many beautiful things with the scroll saw.

He is survived by his wife, Mickie, a daughter, Cheryl (Ned) Barnes of Hudson, OH, a son, Mike (Julie) Bergeson of Ames, and a daughter, Terri (Doug) Opperman of Stillwater, MN, grandchildren - Casey and Chris Barnes of Columbus, Ohio, Corey Barnes of Hudson, OH, Nicole Opperman of Fargo, ND, Kristen Opperman of Ames, Katie Opperman of Stillwater, MN, Shawn Bergeson of Kansas City and Stephen Bergeson of Ames,a brother, Richard, of Newton, IA, a brother, Robert and his wife, Dee Ann, of Ames and many nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death as well as two sisters-in- law and two brothers-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to either Ames Calvary United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to Israel Family Hospice House of Ames.
