Donald LeRoy Williams, 86 passed away Thursday April 16th at home in rural Maxwell with his loving family beside him.

Don was born March 31, 1929, to Irvin and Hazel Williams at his parent’s farm in rural Nevada. He attended country school till the 6th grade then went to Nevada school and graduated from Nevada High School in 1948. He became a farmer and also drove a school bus for Nevada. On December 15, 1950, he married Ruth Bloomberg at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Nevada. In May of 1951 he joined the army and ended up serving on the front lines in Korea operating one of the 800-million candle power searchlights. In 1953 with an honorable discharge he returned to farming. He enjoyed helping his granddaughter, Nina, with her rabbits and his grandson, Rease, with his chickens and garden. After retiring from farming he enjoyed gardening and picking strawberries. He was a member of the Loring United Methodist Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Ruth, of almost 65 years; his daughter Kay (Tony) Morris of Maxwell and his two grandchildren Nina and Rease; his sisters Beverly Johnson of Story City, Cheryl Metcalf of Colorado, Pam Whisenant of Texas; sister in law Dorothy Williams of Des Moines, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Kim, and his brother, Wendell, in1977, his parents and his sister Carolyn.

Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, also at the funeral home with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Life Hospice or Mt. Zion Cemetery Association in memory of Don.
