William George “Bill” Coughenour, 74, of Maxwell passed away on April 15, 2015, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa surrounded by family.

Bill was born on April 4, 1941, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jack and Golden (Murrow) Coughenour. He graduated from Maxwell High School with the Class of 1960. Bill lived and farmed in Maxwell all of his life. Bill was united in marriage to Kay Sesker on June 3, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church and Maxwell Masonic Lodge #455.

The most important things to Bill were farming and his family. He enjoyed many family vacations, spending winters in Texas and John Deere tractors. He had a passion for raising cattle, which he inherited from his dad. His Gator was his prized possession and he spent many hours driving it around the farm.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kay; four sons: Mark (Kristi), Matthew (Mary), Martin (Laurie) all of Maxwell, and Mitchell (Misty) of Cambridge; nine grandchildren: T.J. (LoriDee) Coughenour, Amanda (Trevor) Sharp, Trever, Trent, Kelsie, Megan, Emily, Jordan and Blake Coughenour; one sister, Kae (Ted) Koski of Wilmore KY; his sisters-in-law, Diane (Lee) Andeway of Oskaloosa and Marilyn Sesker of Dexter; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sue.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 19, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with a Masonic service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 20, at the Maxwell United Methodist Church in Maxwell with Pastor Jerry Swanberg officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery just north of Maxwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House or the Parkinson’s Foundation in memory of Bill.
