Xiangyi "Sonny" Wang was born March 19, 1990 to John Xioazhong and Lisa (Xin) Wang in Beijing, China. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Iowa State University in 2012. Sonny was working as a realtor at Keller Williams Greater Des Moines Real Estate. He was very active at Cornerstone Church and in the Ames community.
Sonny passed away at 25 years of age on March 22, 2015.
Sonny is survived by his parents, John and Lisa Wang; his brother, Cheney Wang; his grandparents, Shuming Wang, Zuxian Diong, Shuyan Feng and Wengao Wang; and his aunt and uncle, Xia Wang and Yining Wang.
The greatest commands in the Bible are to love God and to love people. Sonny will be remembered as a man who did both incredibly well. His love for Jesus has been strong from the moment he became a Christian his freshman year of college. His life was then marked by a love for people that always included an infectious smile and a conversation about goodness of God and the Gospel. Sonny, till the end of his life, wanted everyone to know of the saving grace of Jesus that had so captured his heart.
Sonny’s life verse was James 4:14, “You don’t even know what tomorrow will bring—what your life will be! For you are like smoke that appears for a little while, then vanishes.” Sonny’s life was shorter than we hoped, but he lived it in a way that made every moment matter for eternity.

Or to honor his life and passion, "The Sonny Wang Memorial Fund for Mission Starfish Haiti" which will go directly to do work amongst children in Haiti. Sonny was very close to the founder of this organization and involved extensively in this mission.
