Douglas Lee Tschopp was born September 9, 1958 and adopted by his parents, Herbert Frederick and Dorothy (Kottmeier) Tschopp in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During his early school years, Doug developed a strong interest in sports and served as manager for football teams in Cedar Rapids and at Ames High School. He graduated from Ames High in 1977 and organized his most recent class reunion. Doug worked for Mary Greeley Hospital while in high school and as a programmer/analyst for the Statistical Laboratory at ISU before graduating with a BSc in Statistics and Computer Science in 1984. He was a software programmer/analyst in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany from September 1986 to March 1988. Doug was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He remained active as an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 275, and as a district committee member.

Doug married Debora Ann Eztwiler on December 14, 1995. Both were active in ACTORS, he as a set maker and an occasional actor and she as costume and prop specialist. She became disabled and moved to Iowa Veterans Home. Doug also became disabled and joined her at IVH where they were happy until her death on November 18, 2008. Doug was discharged from the IVH in 2011, and lived in Ames until his death.

Doug’s interests included statistical analysis, politics, sports, and military history, equipment and policy. His statistical skills were very useful to his party in winning key county offices. He had a political blog on Facebook.

Doug died at 56 years of age on March 21, 2015 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Doug is survived by his mother, Dorothy Tschopp McGee; his stepfather, Thomas D. McGee; and his sister, Jana Tschopp, her son, Dana and grandson, Gunnar Tschopp.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert F. Tschopp; and his wife, Deborah E. Tschopp.
