Obituary for Minnie Mildred Cummings

Minnie Cummings, 101, of Maxwell, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Mitchell Village Care Center in Mitchellville. Minnie was born August 26, 1913, in Collins to Thomas and Levenia (Backous) Duesbury.

Minnie lived all her life in the Collins-Maxwell area. She married Howard Cummings on September 22, 1932. She was a homemaker and after her children started school she became a cook at the Maxwell Community Schools. Minnie enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, embroidering items for her family, canning, making pickles, making jellies and jams and always had cake and cookies for her visitors.

Minnie is survived by her children, Richard (Sylvia) Cummings of Berthoud, Colorado, Don (Mary Kay) Cummings of Mitchellville, Janet (Ron) Gilbert of Des Moines, Norman Cummings of Pueblo West, Colorado, Tom (Pam) Cummings of Prescott, Arizona and Gary (Marlene) Cummings of Maxwell; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her parents; her son, Terry L.; two brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 18 at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 19 also at the funeral home. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in Peoria Cemetery outside Maxwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics in honor of her special granddaughter, Sara.
