Eunice E. Scott, 94, of Maxwell, died Monday, February 16th, 2015. Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 20, at Bacon Funeral Home, 422 First Street in Maxwell. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Maxwell Community Center, 84 Main Street and graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Eunice was born in Ogden, May 20th, 1920, the daughter of E.G. and Selma Carlson. Eunice graduated from Ogden High School in 1938. She attended St. Paul Bible Institute in 1939 and then John Fletcher College where she received her teaching certificate. Eunice had also attended summer school at Drake University. She taught the third grade in Fernald, Kimballton and Nevada. Eunice babysat for many years and worked as the receptionist at Story County Medical Center in Nevada.

On June 7th, 1950, Eunice was united in marriage with Lester Settle in Ogden. They made their home in Nevada and their union was blessed with one child, Mary. Lester passed away in 1977. Eunice married Emmett Scott of Maxwell on February 4, 1984. Emmett was laid to rest in 1994.

First and foremost in Eunice’s life were her faith and her family. Eunice was a member of the Maxwell Methodist Church. She loved cooking, traveling, shopping, sewing, and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed being outside in warm weather, visiting the berry patch, and going for a drive on a sunny morning. Eunice loved listening to hymns and playing the piano.

Eunice is survived by her brother, Luke (Louise) Carlson of Pennsylvania, her daughter, Mary (Merlyn) Harringa of Boone; her step-son, Larry (Sheryl) Scott of Omaha; her step-daughter, Eleanor Robertson of Huxley; two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Eric) Stinaff of Ohio and Sara (Matt) Hackbart of Ames; three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, seven brothers, and two husbands.

The family would like to thank Central Iowa Hospice and the Boone County Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.

Memorials have been established to the Carlson Fund, c/o Mary Frances Carlson, 917 Hayslope Dr., Knoxville, TN 37919.
