Lois B. Erickson was born April 7, 1930, the daughter of Elmer and Dena (Behrends) Christiansen in rural Pocahontas, Iowa. She attended both the country grade school Grant #5 and Immanuel Lutheran School in Pomeroy. Lois graduated from Pocahontas High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation, she attended Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing with part of her training at a polio treatment facility in Texas. On November 22, 1953, Lois married Arlo Erickson, of Madrid, Iowa. Lois continued to work as an R.N. as a labor delivery nurse. Lois was also a farm wife, raising a family of three children, to which she often referred to herself as a “home engineer”. Lois was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, which included the building remodeling campaign, the Ballard Community School “Dollars for Scholars”, the Slater Garden Club and The Iowa Questers.

Lois will be remembered for many good recipes and was known for her love of sewing. She took college courses for quilting, enjoyed square dancing, volunteered for 4H, was dedicated to her card club friends, and loved flowers, gardening, entertaining guests for meals, winter travel and hosting tea parties for her grandchildren.
