Barbara Eileen Toot, 66, died on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Story County Senior Care in Nevada, Iowa. Barb was born on October 31, 1948 to Howard and Irene (Rasmusson) Jacobson in Eldora, IA. She attended school at Milford Township School and graduated from Nevada High School in 1966. Barb was married to Joe Toot on June 29, 1968 in Nevada, Iowa. She attended Grandview College, Mankato State College, and Iowa State University, graduating from ISU with a degree in Elementary Education in 1978. Barb taught first and second grade in the Collins-Maxwell school district for 29 years, retiring in 2007.

Barb was a church pianist/organist in and around Nevada her entire adult life. She taught piano lessons for 45 years, instilling the love of music in hundreds of youngsters. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, card making and sewing. Barb especially enjoyed the time spent with her granddaughters, Anna Isabelle and Clara Jane Toot. Barb made extended family and friends a priority, diligently acknowledging birthdays, anniversaries and milestones in their lives.

Throughout her adult life, she was active in clubs and organizations. In addition to being a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Barb was a member of PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, Immaculata Study Club, Milford Township Ladies Card Club, and the TriCounty 500 Card Club.

She is survived by her husband, Joe, son Eric (Stephanie) and granddaughters Anna and Clara of Johnston, her daughter Erin (Steve Jay) of Nevada, brother Bob (Sharon) Jacobson of Story City, brother Bill (Mary Jane) Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Barb was preceded in death by her parents, sister Bernita and sister-in-law Mary Toot-Crouteau.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ramsey Village in Des Moines and Story County Senior Care in Nevada for their excellent care and compassion.
Visitation will be 3:00 – 6:00 PM, Sunday, February 8th at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, February 9, 2015 at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for distribution to Barb’s favorite charities in her memory.

Arrangements are being handled by Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, IA.
