Irvin W. Cockerham, 88, of Nevada, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Irv was born September 17, 1926, to Nerris and Anna (Lehman) Cockerham. He was united in marriage to Shirley Dunn on January 6, 1951, in Nevada and served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. Irv was member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, William F. Ball American Legion Post #48 and the 241 Coachman Club. He had been a 4-H leader and was an avid ISU fan. Irvin enjoyed camping, fishing and always liked to tinker.

Irv is survived by his children, Teresa Haaland of Nevada; Dan (Melody) Cockerham of Nevada; Keith (Patricia) Cockerham of Novato, CA, and Cindy (Dave) Testroet of Madrid; his grandchildren, Ryan Haaland, Kirk (Kelley) Haaland, Jennifer (Karl) Smith, Eric, Amber and Nicole Testroet; his great-grandchildren, Zach Miller, Hannah, Hayley and Kinley Haaland and Kianna Testroet; his sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Don) Vollmer; along with several nieces and nephews.

Irv was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley in 2003; his parents; his son-in-law, John Haaland; his sister, Stella Carver; his brother-in-law, Wayne Carver, and his nephew Gregg Carver.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, January 12, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 13, also at the church with Fr. Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Nevada.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 4-H Foundation, Israel Family Hospice House or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
