Hugh John Rittgers, 64, passed from this life on Friday, January 9, 2015. A resident of Diamond, IL, Hugh resided for the past few years at Meadowbrook Manor nursing home in Bolingbrook, IL.

Hugh was born in Des Moines, IA on December 30, 1950, to Thomas E and Phyllis G. (Clipson) Rittgers. He spent his childhood in Nevada, IA, graduating from Nevada High School in 1969. He served two years in the U.S. Army before attending Des Moines Area Community College and then Iowa State University. He spent most of his life working in the trucking industry as a driver, dispatcher, and finally as the owner of a towing company in suburban Chicago.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Rittgers of Diamond, IL, his son, Chad Rittgers of Villisca, IA, two step daughters, Tanya Danick of Red Oak, IA, and Nicole Hamilton of Romeoville, IL, two granddaughters, Paige Rittgers and Bree Rittgers, and his brother, Mark (Cheryl) Rittgers of Gardners, PA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.

A funeral service will be held at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, IA on Thursday, January 15, 2015, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Rittgers family cemetery in Johnston, IA.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Rittgers Cemetery Association.
