Lois Fruehling was born on August 24, 1925 to Frank and Vera (Hamilton) Swinderman. She graduated from Donnellson High School in 1943 and attended Olivet Nazarene College. Lois married Wayne Fruehling on June 21, 1947.

Lois worked in the bookkeeping department of Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft. Madison, the Business Office of Iowa State University in Ames, and the Government Nutrition Program in Monona County. She lived on the various Research Centers for Iowa State University, where Wayne was the superintendent for 30 years.

Lois was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene throughout her life. Following retirement, Lois and Wayne spent a year in Swaziland, Africa, volunteering with the Nazarene Bible College.

Lois enjoyed gardening, tending large gardens to preserve vegetables and fruits to feed her family. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, biking and walking. She is lovingly remembered for her baking, especially cinnamon rolls, pies and whole wheat buns, and a 3-layered chocolate birthday cake with fluffy white frosting.

Lois, formerly of Ames, of Timberland Village in Story City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at the Israel Family Hospice House at 89 years of age.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Juanita) Fruehling, of Bradley, IL, Stephen (Virginia) Fruehling, of Loveland, CO, Peggy (Greg) Dieter, of Ames and John (Sheryl) of Fairview, TX; seven grandchildren, Thaddeus Fruehling, of Windsor, CO, Michael (Rachel) Fruehling, of Bourbonnais, IL, Matthew Fruehling, of Bradley, IL, Evan (Rachel) Fruehling, of Wylie, TX, Ross (Addielin) Blumer, of Orenhofen, Germany, Ethan Fruehling, of Oklahoma City, OK and Kathryn Blumer of Ames; three great-grandchildren, Haven and Thane Fruehling of Bourbonnais, IL and Sarah Blumer of Orenhofen, Germany; four sisters-in-law, Theresa Swinderman, of Keokuk, Marge Swinderman, of Bettendorf, Arlene (Bill) Hainer, of Ft. Madison, and Shirley Fruehling, of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Fruehling, on December 10, 2013; an infant daughter, Donna Lois; four brothers, Francis, Harold, Donald and Gene Swinderman; and two sisters, Colleen Leckbee and Evelyn Runge.
