Brent A. Selix was born June 25, 1957 to Joseph and Darlene (Winningham) Selix in Ottumwa. Brent graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1975 and from the University of Iowa (B.B.A., Finance) in 1980.

Brent enjoyed riding his bike, recently riding over 6,000 miles in one year. Brent also loved to hunt with his dogs Sadie, Molly, and Kali. His springtime passion was turkey hunting with his longtime friend, John Goodrich. He loved to be outdoors, especially on the east porch of his home, talking about everything. He liked to garden but wasn't good at it. One of Brent's favorite things was reading the Des Moines Register to his wife each morning. In the afternoon, Brent loved riding in the car looking for eagles and other wildlife.

Brent passed away peacefully on January 11, 2015, surrounded by family and friends at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at 57 years of age.

Brent is survived by his wife, Marcia Selix, of Slater; three sons, Joseph Selix, of Denver, CO, Scott Selix, of Minneapolis, MN, and Chad Selix, of Ankeny; his step-children, Madeline (Gered) Burkhardt, of Sheldahl, Robbie Henry, of Slater, and Jordan Henry, of Ankeny; his mother, Darlene Selix, of Kansas City, MO; and his brother, Stan (Lora) Selix, of Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by his only sister, Kathy Jo; his father, Joseph Selix; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
