Jane Olson, age 84, of Nevada, Iowa, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, with Pastor David Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday one hour prior to services.

Born April 28, 1930, in Ellsworth, Iowa, Jane Doreen (Severson) Olson was the daughter of Martin and Ellen (Knutson) Severson. She received her education in Jewell and, on July 23, 1946, was united in marriage to Clifton Olson in Clarion. The couple was blessed with three children, Connie Jo, Larry, and Cristy.

Jane served as the Commissioner of Veteran Affairs in Story County for many years, retiring in 1992. She was a faithful and active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada, participating in many capacities over the years. She also enjoyed her bridge club and was an accomplished seamstress. Most recently, Jane made her home at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Survivors include her daughter, Cristy (Randy) Walker of Nevada; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Dale) Olson Hadsall of Roland, Joy (Tim) Olson Weatherman of Huxley, Renae Walker of Ames, and Justin Walker of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren, Drew, Noah, Frances, Trent, Tanner, and Jenna; a sister, Dorothy Whitney of Radcliffe; a daughter-in-law, Claudine Olson of Las Vegas, NV; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000; her parents; a son, Larry Olson; a daughter, Connie Jo Olson; two brothers, Kenneth Severson and Donald Severson; and a sister, Ferne Severson.

Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Jane and her family.
