Marion F. Hindt, age 87, of Story City, IA, formerly of Prior Lake, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, November 15, at 1 p.m., at the Jewell United Church of Christ in Jewell, IA, with visitation two hours prior to the service. Military Honors will be given by the Iowa National Guard and the American Legion at the Church. Lunch will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.

Marion Frederick Hindt was born Wed., April 20, 1927, in Little Rock, IA, to Arthur and Emma (Schemmel) Hindt. He graduated from Little Rock High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. Marion married Ardene Gaul on Jan. 20, 1953, in Sibley, IA. Before his retirement, he was a parts manager for Ford Motor Dealerships. Marion was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Jewell United Church of Christ. Marion loved attending his children and grandchildren’s sports activities and events. He also enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and yard work. He was a big fan of his son’s auto racing.

Marion is survived by his wife, Ardene, of Story City; two daughters, Mary Jo (Griff) Lavik, of Greensboro, GA, and Linda (Kevin) Bottorff, of Ellsworth, IA; grandchildren, Danielle (Michael) Kist, Kieler (Amanda) Bottorff, Nick Hindt, Tracy Hindt, Erin Hindt and Kelly Hindt; two great-granddaughters, Riley and Annabelle; siblings, Jim (Linda) Hindt, of Rockwell City, IA, Betty (Robert) Kruger, of Sibley, IA and Leona (Fred) Heidebrink, of Bigalow, MN.

Marion was preceded in death by his two sons, Steve and Richard; his parents, brothers and sisters.
