Mary Martha Cox was born March 27, 1926, to John W. and Fannie (Funston) Henderson in Keota, Iowa. Her education included two years at Parsons College. Mary taught for twelve years, in rural schools in the Keota area and at Wayland. Mary and Nevill Eugene "Gene" Cox met in Wayland and were married June 6, 1954 in Keota. They moved to Ames in 1956. Mary later worked at the Ames Tribune for nine years. Mary was a 57-year member and active volunteer at First United Methodist Church and belonged to the Eastern Star.
Mary passed away at 88 years of age on October 11, 2014, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Mary is survived by her husband, Gene, of Ames; two sons, Kent (Elaine) Cox and their children, Christine and Michelle, of Oakton, Virginia and Craig Cox and his son, Nicholas, of Frisco, Texas; two sisters, Donna Plock, of Golden, Colorado and Barbara Hendrickson, of Lakewood, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Henderson, of Keota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to First United Methodist Church in Ames.
