OBITUARY OF PETER C. FARNI

Aged Veteran Answered to "Taps" and Buried Here.

Funeral services for the aged war veteran, Peter C. Farni, 85, who died at the home of his son Peter Jr. in Ames, Thursday evening, were held from Memorial Lutheran church Monday afternoon and interment was in the Nevada cemetery. The sermon was by Dr. C. N. Swihart.

Peter C. Farni, father of Howard of Nevada and Peter of Ames died at the home of latter Thursday evening. He was born in Woodford county, Ill., February 11, 1839 age 85 years, 17 days. Mr. Farni volunteered as a private soldier in Company K, 108 Regiment of Illinois Infantry. He served for two years until he was wounded in action at Vicksburg, Miss. May 30, 1863, receiving his discharge August 26, 1864 at Upslen Hospital, Quincy, Ill., by reason of Surgeon's certificate disability.

Miss Virginia O'Neal and Mr. Farni were united in marriage August 4, 1883, and made their home at Eureka, Ill., until the death of the wife in 1917 when the home was broken up and he came to live with his sons in Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his loss four sons and two daughters they being Henry of Peoria, Ill., Mrs. Kate McIlhany of Minouk, Ill., Peter of Ames, Howard of Nevada, Mrs. Lolo Griffeth of Louisville, Ky., and Christ of Long Island, New York. Of those living at a distance the two latter were able to be present at the funeral.

Mr. Farni was a member of the Menotnite church in Washington, Ill. and died in the faith. He was a kind and loving father and will be remembered by a large number of friends.
