COLO PIONEER BURIED SUNDAY
FUNERAL SERVICES FOR ADAM LANTZ HELD AT COLO SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Colo, March 3--Adam Lantz, 85, who for over 57 years had lived upon one farm, a mile north of Colo, on the Jefferson highway, died at the hospital in Marshalltown Friday afternoon and the funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Colo Sunday afternoon and interment was in the Colo cemetery.
Mr. Lantz died from the effects of injuries sustained some weeks ago when he was knocked down by cow while in the feed lot at the Lantz farm and sustained sever injuries to his hip.
The funeral services were largely attended by old time friends and neighbors, who had known him for over a century. The sermon was preached by Dr. C. N. Swihart of Memorial Lutheran church, Nevada, and the music was by a ladies quartet consisting of Mrs. F. E. Hansen, Mrs. Karl B. Cessna, Miss Hegland and Miss Ruth Day.
The pall bearers were Henry Hemping, Bert Bloomberg, Wm. Pierce, Robert McIntosh, Albert Bower and Roy Ginter.
Mr. Lantz was a native of Hessen Darmstedt, Germany, where he was born September 2, 1828. When a lad of fifteen he came with his people to America and settled first at Altoona, Penn. It was in 1864 that he was married to Annie Ewald and they came on west settling at Forreston, Ill.
They remained there for a couple of years and in 1866 came to Iowa and located on the farm just north of Colo, where the wife died in 1911 and the husband lived until he met with the accident that resulted in his death.
Mr. Lantz was a most kindly gentleman and will be long remembered because of many fine characteristics. He had always been a member of the Lutheran church and his faith was very strong.
The wife and three children had preceded him to the world beyond and he leaves one son, George, and two daughter, Lizzie and Mary, all living on the old homestead.
