February 5, 1915 - September 1, 2014

Sally Meimann, 99, formerly of rural Nevada, died Monday, September 1, 2014, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada, with Fr. John Herzog officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Nevada. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a short prayer service at 7 p.m.

Sally was born in Keota on February 5, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Rose Pfeiffer. She received her RN degree from St. Thomas Mercy in Marshalltown in 1937, and worked as a public health nurse in Marshall County. On November 27, 1940, Sally was married to Lester Meimann, becoming a farm wife and mother, and later continuing to practice her nursing skills at the Johnson Clinic in Nevada. She and Les farmed for six years near Zearing and then for 37 years near Fernald. After Les’s passing in 1983, Sally continued to make her home on the farm until moving to Timberland Assisted Living in Story City at age 97.

Sally immersed herself tirelessly in her church and community, taking leadership roles directing the St. Patrick’s Church choir, singing or playing violin at countless weddings, funerals and holiday celebrations. She also served as a 4-H leader, and participated in many school activities in Fernald and Colo, Story County Porkettes, Secretary to the Health Improvement Association (which provided nursing scholarships), St. Ann’s Study club, Richland Garden Club and the Sorosis Club. She also was an avid card player, enjoying many social games of bridge and 500.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Phil) Ehemann of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jean (Tom) Christen of Ft. Collins, CO; two sons, Jim (Sue) Meimann of Des Moines, and Bob (Liz) Meimann of rural Nevada; two sisters, Virginia (Tony) Knoll of Marshalltown, and Ilo (Chuck) McBurney of Bettendorf; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Les; an infant son; one grandson; one great-granddaughter; three brothers; and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sally's name may be directed to Timberland Village Assisted Living, Story City, Iowa. Ryan Funeral Home of Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Sally and her family.
