June 4, 1939 - August 31, 2014

Alta Mann, 75, of Roland, and formerly of Nevada, died Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada, with Vicar Nat Bothwell officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy Cemetery, rural Fernald, Iowa. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

Alta Ruth Mann was born June 4, 1939, in Newtown, Missouri, the daughter of Trulin and Mary (Deeds) Corbin. She attended school in Fernald and Nevada, graduating from Nevada High School in 1957.

On March 7, 1959, Alta married Gordon Mann in Unionville, Missouri. The couple made their home in Roland where they raised their family of five children. Alta worked for a time at Bourne’s in Ames, then was employed at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada for 29 years, retiring in 1997. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed word puzzles and the company of her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Gordy; four children, Gary Mann and fiancée Di Olesen of Ames, Ed (Jodi) Mann of Jewell, Kevin (Freda) Mann of Calhoun, GA, and Phyllis Mann of Roland; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman (Sandy) Corbin of Nevada, and Marion (Kay) Corbin of Pottersville, MO; two cats, Winter and Summer; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Mann in 1994; a great-granddaughter, Vivian Scott; her parents; and two sisters, Mary Katherine Corbin and Jessie Mathis.

Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Alta and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Alta’s name may be given to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
