Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Mary Jane Hage was born November 9, 1924 to Harry and Hazel (Snyder) Read in Stanhope, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1942 and worked for Farmer's State Bank in Stanhope until her marriage to Floyd Hage on September 11, 1943 in South Mills, North Carolina. During Floyd's tour of duty in the United States Navy, they lived in Norfolk, Virginia, home port for his ship. During that time, Mary worked at Seaboard Bank. In late 1944, Floyd's ship was sent to the Pacific and Mary moved to Long Beach, California where she worked for Bank of America.

After Floyd's discharge from the Navy in 1945, they moved to Ames. In September of 1947, Mary began work at College Savings Bank (at the intersection of Hayward and Lincoln Way, now US Bank) where she was employed for 40 years, attaining the title of vice-president. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church, the DAR, the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mary will always be remembered for her upbeat, cheerful demeanor. She loved visiting with her family and friends, of which she had many. You could never hang up the phone after talking to her without a smile on your face. Mary was a very special person - she befriended everyone she ever met. She was a wonderful storyteller and always quick to laugh and find humor in everyday life.

Mary passed away peacefully at 89 years of age on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House with her loving family at her bedside.

Mary is survived by her sisters, Naomi Lee and Roma Jeanne Anderson; her sister-in-law, Shari Read; her nieces and nephews, Mark (Janis) Lee, Jacqueline Lee, Jill (Bill) Talbot, David (Jacque) Read, Jim (Laura) Caauwe, Ron (Daneice) Hage and Carol Krueger; and many great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, two infant sons; her brother, Jack Read; her sister-in-law, Clela (Les) Caauwe; and brothers-in-law, Robert A. Lee and Andy Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Story County , the Wounded Warrior Project, or Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House.

The family of Mary Hage would like to thank the warm, caring staff at Mary Greeley Israel Family Hospice House.
