Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Jennings was born in Story City, Iowa on May 13, 1923 to Carl and Dagne (Nockling) Sondall. He married June Johnson of Roland, Iowa in 1943.

Jennings was a lifelong resident of Story City. He first worked as an electrician with his father and brothers. In 1948, he started to work for the Town of Story City. He was the Superintendent of Water and Sewer for the town for 38 years until his retirement in 1986.

Jennings was proud of his military service in World War II. He was a member of the 865th Engineer Aviation Battalion and served in New Guinea and the Philippines. In November 2013 he was part of the Story County Freedom Flight to Washington, DC, a trip he thoroughly enjoyed.

He enjoyed traveling, making several trips to Europe and Hawaii. He also enjoyed his daily coffee meetings with old friends, woodworking, and coin collecting. He was a master handyman, and was equally skillful as an electrician, plumber, and carpenter.

Jennings Sondall, 91, of Story City, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Bethany Manor, Story City.

Jennings is survived by his wife of 71 years, June, and their two sons, Stan (Jane) Sondall of Urbandale, Iowa, Jim (Christy) Sondall of Richland, Washington, and two daughters, Shirley (Gary) Colston of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Patsy (Harold) Waggoner of Urbandale, Iowa.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren – Cindy (Matt) Camp, Margie (Mike) McCoy, Deborah (Richard) Zermeno, Michael (Heather) Colston, Julie Lockhart, Justin Sondall, and Victoria Sondall and eleven great grandchildren – Nathaniel, Jeffrey, and Ashley Camp, Elizabeth, Kathleen, Andrew, and Benjamin McCoy, Andon, Lily, and Ethan Colston, and Anna Lockhart.

Jennings is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, an infant son, a grandson (Christopher Waggoner), and a great granddaughter (Jennifer Camp).

Memorials may be made out to Bethany Manor.
