Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Marjorie Ann Legg was born May 21, 1948 to Corbett and Geraldine Julius in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Marge was baptized and confirmed at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Manson. She graduated from Manson High School in 1966 where she excelled in golf and basketball, twice named and an All-State Forward. Marge attended Midwestern College in Denison for two years where she played on two national qualifying teams, leading the team each year in rebounding and scoring. She finished her undergraduate work at Parsons College in Fairfield. Marge taught physical education for one year at Central Lee Community Schools and coached cross country and basketball. She then taught for 31 years at Boone Community Schools and was an assistant and junior high coach for several sports, including girl’s basketball. Marge was recognized by the Boone Community School District in 2002 for exemplary teaching and service.
Marge married Bernard (Bud) Legg on July 31, 1982 in Ames and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marge possessed the rare gift of being an instant friend to whomever she met. She was generous with her love and time and among many things, coordinated neighborhood fund raising efforts for cancer and heart disease charities. Marge was an ardent fan of Central College softball, Iowa State men’s basketball and football and Notre Dame football. She remained positive and vibrant in spite of the onset of lung disease in 2003, that placed her on oxygen 24/7, and then with colon cancer in 2012. Marge was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames.
Marge passed away at 66 years of age on August 8, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Marge is survived by her husband, Bud Legg, of Ames; her daughter, Anne (John) Brees and their children, Sloane and Adler, of Des Moines; her brothers, Lynn (Patty) Julius of Phoenix, Arizona, Allan (Nancy) Julius, of Ralston, Nebraska and Michael (Bruce Porter) Julius, of Twin Lakes; her sister, Jan (Dennis) Flaherty, of Pocahontas; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Julius, of Storm Lake.
