Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Myrtle ReJean Johnson, the devoted and beloved wife of Thomas Johnson, of Story City passed away June 21, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City, at the age of 78 years. Funeral services will be Wednesday June 25, 2014 at 10:30 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Story City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Myrtle was born April 15, 1936 at the Morris Hospital in Morris, Illinois, the 10th child of Lars and Johanna (Hatteberg) Akre. She grew up on a farm near Newark, IL attending Newark Grade School and graduating from Newark High School in 1954. She was employed at the M.B. Anderson Garage as a secretary until she met Thomas Johnson while visiting family in Iowa. She married Thomas L. Johnson on March 29, 1958 at the Newark Lutheran Church, Newark, IL and moved to Story City where she spent the rest of her life. She worked at Atomic Energy as an account specialist until she retired in 1985. Myrtle was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Sons of Norway. She enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, puzzles, suduko, games and loved being with her family.

She is survived by her husband Tom Johnson of Story City; a sister Grace (Curt) Owenson of Story City and Bea Akre (sister-in-law) of Newark, IL and 30 nieces and nephews.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her parents; six brothers: Orvin, Thor, Ralph, John, Louis and Lawrence; two sisters: Gladys Jurney and Carrie Teig; five nephews: Lisle and Chris Akre, Lee Jurney, Don Ellis Akre and Tommy Lynn Akre.
