COLLINS MAN TOOK OWN LIFE

EDWARD MARTIN SUICIDED BY SHOOTING SELF THROUGH HEAD

Special to the Journal.
Collins, July 2--Edward Martin, 57, long time farm hand in this vicinity suicided late Sunday afternoon, by shooting himself with a charge from a 4.10 gauge shotgun.

The dead body of the man was found slumped over in his car near an unoccupied building on the Fletcher Mead farm a half mile west of Collins about 8:00 p. m.

The gun had been held between his knees with the muzzle under his chin and charge had gone through the head, entering the brain.

Martin, who had worked around Collins for about 25 years, 14 years fro Ed Vasey, but recently for Roy Vasey, had drived to the place alone and while no one heard the shot, Patton, who happened to be passing, noticed the car, and drove over to investigate.

The sheriff's office was notified and Deputy Hanson came down and checked on the case. Coroner Mills was also called, but after investigating, decided that no inquest was necessary. The body was taken in charge by W. C. Brouhard, mortician in Zearing.

Edward Martin was born at Runnels, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Martin. One brother suicided some time ago and he leaves a sister, Mrs. John Wellschon of Runnels.
