Mrs. Bertha Nicola Died Tuesday at Home of Daughter

Definite funeral arrangements for Mrs. Bertha Nicola, 80, who died Tuesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. May Deeds in Ottumwa, as a result of a stroke of apoplexy, awaits word from the son Chattie Nicola, now on his way here from California.

Mrs. Nicola, who had been a resident of Nevada for the past 17 years, had for the past few years, been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Royal Briggs, at 1020 K avenue.

A few weeks ago she had gone to Ottumwa for a visit in the home of older daughter, Mrs. Deeds. There she was taken ill yesterday and passed away shortly afterwards.

Mrs. Nicola was born at Brighton, Iowa, March 18, 1863 but of later years had made her home here. She was a active member of the Seventhday Adventist denomination and had a very favorable acquaintance over the city, being a woman of many fine talents.

She leaves besides the daughter, Mrs. Deeds, at whose home she passed away, daughters, Mattie Riley, Maxine Briggs of Nevada and sons, Chattie of California, and Earl of Kansas City, and a sister Mrs. Arda Madden of Boulder, Colorado.

One of the sad features was the death of a sister, Martha, at Davenport, last night, but a few hours after the passing of Mrs. Nicola.

The body is at the Morfoot funeral home awaiting definite funeral and burial arrangements.
