A. K. BANKS
A. K. Banks, 91, longtime resident of Story county for 12 years sheriff of this county, died at the Iowa Soldiers Home hospital at Marshalltown, Sunday evening at 10:20, after a long illness.
Mr. Banks, who had made his home in Des Moines for many years, had been a longtime invalid and about a year ago he was taken to the hospital of the Old Soldiers home for car and treatment. His children were with him when he died and he had enjoyed the very best of care in the institution during the last year of his long life.
Mr. Banks was a native of Illinois, enlisted as a private in Company G of the 153d Illinois infantry, served during the last year of the war and shortly after his discharge came to Story county, settling, first at Iowa Center. Upon being elected sheriff he moved to Nevada and that was his home for many years. During his residence there he served as sheriff from 1880 to 1888 and from 1896 to 1900. Later he moved to Des Moines where he was engaged in business for a time.
He leaves his daughters, Mrs. Edith Shugart of Nevada and Mrs. Alma Allen of Des Moines, and sons Howard, Arthur and Jay Banks, all of Nevada.
