Bert Mabe, 68, died at Iowa sanitarium Monday afternoon at 5:30 after having been taken there shortly after 1 p.m.
Mr. Mabe who had been failing for many months, had bee a sufferer from a peculiar affliction: paralysis of the throat, neck and shoulders. Many physicians and specialists had been called in the case and he had recently been the hospital at Iowa City for observation and treatment but no relief was obtained.
Born at Dubuque, Iowa in February, 1870, he had been connected with P. E. Shugart of Nevada in his railroad work, farming and livestock feeding operations since a lad 16 years of age.
For many years he had lived upon and operated one of the large Shugart farms south of Nevada, but for the past three years had operated a farm two miles east of Nevada belonging to Mr. Shugart.
He leaves his wife, and two brothers. The brothers are Roy Mabe of near Nevada and Charles Mabe of Manilus, N. Y. The latter was out and spent some time with his brother a few weeks ago.
