Maude Bell (Thompson) Vasey Schauper, 100, of Maxwell, passed away peacefully at her home in Maxwell on June 3, 2014.
Maude was born February 2, 1914, in Mingo to George and Mary (Duesenbury) Thompson. She graduated from Mingo H. S. in 1931 and was united in marriage to Maurice “Pete” Vasey. He passed away in 1956. Maude later married Russell Schauper. She worked many years hanging wallpaper and was a cook at the Maxwell School. Maude was a member of the Maxwell Christian Church, taught Sunday school and was an active with C.W.F. member plus an active member of the Maxwell V.F. W.
Maude loved gardening, mushroom hunting, canning, sewing and quilting. She loved giving her homemade jams and breads to all the “old” people in Maxwell. Maude cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maude is survived by her sons, Fred Vasey of Harrisburg, MO, Larry (Nancy) Vasey of Maxwell, Ronald Vasey of Maxwell and Dean (Toni) Vasey of Des Moines; her daughter, Jo Ann (Ron) Gander of Maxwell; her sister, Olive Dodd of Webster City; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both husbands; a son, Maurice Vasey; a grandson, Jeff Vasey; a granddaughter, Laura Vasey; a brother, Bill Thompson; and three sisters: Hannah, Violet and Vinnie.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 5, at Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, at the Maxwell Christian Church with Pastor Tom Lee officiating. Cremation will follow the service and private burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family of Maude.
