Lorine Amelia (Bishop) Knutson was born on January 26, 1918 at Shipley, Iowa. She grew up in the Shipley area and attended school there through her sophomore year. She then attended Radcliffe Public School where she received her Normal Training so she could teach. She taught at Scotts Valley for two years and then on November 27, 1937 she married Orville Knutson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Lorine and Orville farmed for many years in the Radcliffe, Buckeye and Iowa Falls area. In 1970, they left farming to operate the Allis Chalmers Dealership in Radcliffe, Iowa for twelve years until Orville passed away in November 1982.

Lorine was actively involved in community, church and political activities. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Harmony Club and Historical Society. She was elected to the town council where she served for three terms. In 1986, she received the State Leadership award from Gov. Branstad.

She was a self-taught artist who specialized in oil painting and various other crafts and she also enjoyed teaching aspiring artists.

Lorine passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Lorine is survived and lovingly remembered by five children: Koleen (Larry) Batman of Kountze, Texas, Douglas (Ruth Ann) Knutson of Princeton, Missouri, Sondra (Lev) Wagner of Maplewood, Minnesota, Linda (Terry) Reed of Lakeland, Florida and Christie (Bob) Harken of Maplegrove, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a host of extended family members including her sister Barbara (Keith) Stahl and her brother George (Ruth) Bishop and many nieces and nephews.
