Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Joyce Newell, 67, of Ames, passed away June 12, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Soderstrum Funeral Home, 312 Main St. Slater, Iowa.

Joyce Ann Newell was born October 6, 1946 to Orville and Ferne (Schmidt) Rickert in Des Moines, Iowa. Joyce graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1964 and enjoyed gardening and attending her grandchildren's sporting events and school functions. She had an endearing habit of "adopting" grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her son, Ryan (DeeAnn) Newell, of Kelley; her daughter, Brenda "Josie" Newell, of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Dallis Roberts, Kennedy Newell, Marlee Newell and Rachel Newell; and four brothers, Robert (Gloria) Rickert, Jerry Rickert, Donald Rickert and Jay Rickert and her brother-in-law, Dennis Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bette Cooper and her sister-in-law, Sandy Rickert.
