Funeral services for the late Leland Bates, 66, prominent farmer and livestock man, who passed away Saturday morning from a heart attack at his room in Story hotel, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Morfoot Funeral home in Nevada with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill officiating.

The Colo Masonic lodge of which the deceased was a member will officiate.

Committal will be in the family lot in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the wife who passed away in March of 1943.

Mr. Bates was born on the old Bates homestead, southeast of Nevada, Nov. 30, 1880, a son of Elnathan and Margaret Bates. He grew to manhood in that community. In 1902 he married Mary Raimer and in 1908 they moved on to the Bates farm, which had been their home until the death of Mrs. Bates and had remained as the home of Mr. Bates until his death, although he had been living at the Story hotel for some time.

While his health had not been good, his sudden death Saturday morning came as a distinct shock to his many friends ove the county.

Mr. Bates is survived by his twin brother, Eland Bates of Ames and by a number of nephews and nieces. The latter are Rolne Bates Strother, Dorothy Bates Gillett, and Mary Bates of Ames, Evelyn Bates of Otteson and Ruth Bates of Des Moines and the nephews Lloyd Bates of Ames, Elnathan Bates of Phoenix, Ariz., and Elmer Whitaker and Claude Whitaker of Nevada. He also leaves one brother-in-law, Frank Robinson of Rolfe.

Two sisters are deceased, Mrs. Whitaker of Nevada and Mrs. Frank L. Robinson of Rolfe.
