Howard Konrady rites Friday

Howard L. Konrady, 64, 206 W. Burlington, died at 7:50 a.m. Monday at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Williams Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Ames Cemetery in Ames. Prayers for a Christian Wake will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Knights of Columbus Rosary following. Memorials have been established to Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, ISU St. Thomas Aquinas Student Center in Ames, Masses, and St. Mary Catholic Church parish.

Konrady was born Dec. 3, 1923 at Odebolt, the son of Nicholas F. and Clara E. Stribe Konrady. He grew up in Odebolt, graduated from Odebolt High School, and received a BS degree in civil engineering from Iowa State University, Ames, in December, 1950. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 years, retiring as district materials engineer July 10, 1986.

He married Mary Arlene Daniels May 5, 1951 at Ames, where they lived until moving to Fairfield in 1958. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, currently served on the parish council, was lector coordinator, and worked in the Christian Family movement at both parish and diocesan levels. An Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of VFW and the American Legion. He was active in local bowling leagues, was a member of the Iowa Engineering Society, Wapello Chapter and National Society of Professional Engineers. He served as Scout leader for both Cub Scours and Boy Scouts for the Southern Iowa Council in Fairfield.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Nicholas Russell of Charition, Daniel Joseph, a student at ISU, Ames, Paul Andrew of Bothell, Wash., Philip Stephen of Rock Island, Ill; three daughters, Rose Ellen Acker of Blaine, Minn., Mary Katherine Konrady of Eagan, Minn., Carol Louise Wilson of Hiawatha; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn of Ida Grove and Lyle of Aurelia. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
