Doug A. Haney Jan 4, 1949 - May 10, 2012
Resided in Des Moines, IA

Douglas Arthur Haney, 63, died at Kavanagh House, on May 10, 2012, after a battle with prostate cancer.

Doug was born in Sioux City to Helen and Weldon Haney, the only child of only children. After graduation from West High School and Iowa State, Doug settled in Ames, becoming a "townie" working as a computer programmer for Iowa State University and where he developed many great lifelong friendships.

Doug moved to Des Moines in 2001 to work as a receptionist for Garst West Veterinary Hospital. He then became the oft-described heart and soul of Borders Bookstore, eager to assist all minds, until it closed in 2011.

Doug knew a little bit about everything, and was willing to share it all with anyone who would listen. He was an avid reader, and loved films, poetry, blowing glass, hats, cooking and nature. He bicycled throughout Europe and the United States. Doug was kind, curious, caring and always up for an adventure.

Doug will be deeply missed by his community of friends, who truly became his family. A party to celebrate his life will be held at Sarah Garst's pool in West Des Moines on Sunday, June 3 at 4 p.m.
