OTTO THOMPSON
Otto Harvey Thompson, 99, of Nevada, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1981 at Story County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 14, 1881 in Rantoul, Ill., the son of Tolef and March Knutson Thompson. He attended Story county schools and two years at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
In 1889 Tolef Thompson moved his family, of which there were nine children, to a farm in Richland Township. In March of 1901, Otto married Alta Olinger. They moved to a farm near Geinner, North Dakota, where they raised their family of eight children. In 1936 he returned to Story County and farmed the family place until retiring. Mrs. Thompson died in 1944. In 1947 Otto married Arttie Tudor Solverg. She died in 1952. In 1958, Otto and Ruth Tudor Gerckie were married.
Mr. Thompson was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth, three sons, Francis Thompson of Tucson, Ariz., Marion Thompson of Slater and Lester Thompson of Phoenix, Aria.; three daughters, Edna Carlbon of Minneapolis, Minn., Ethel Clikeman and Effie Oxley of Tucson, Ariz.; stepdaughter Elizabeth Orr of Montreal, Canada; two sisters, Ruby and Lillian Thompson of Nevada; 18 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, five brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11 from the Ryan Funeral Home, Nevada, with Rev. Harold Wagner officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada Cemetery.
