Wesley H. Ebert, age 89, of Nevada, Iowa, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

The family will receive friends at Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Myron Herzberg will officiate. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Wesley Herman Ebert was born to William and Lydia (Storbeck) Ebert on November 9, 1924, on a farm near Paullina, Iowa. He was baptized in 1924, and confirmed his faith at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in 1936.

Wesley graduated from Hartley High School in 1942, then entered the Army Air Force. He was honorably discharged from military service in March, 1946, and returned to Iowa to attend Iowa State College, graduating in February, 1951.
On May 31, 1953, he married Margaret Jane Maxwell in Bedford, Iowa.

Wesley taught and coached at Ogden, Iowa from 1951-55, and in Lake View, Iowa, from 1955-56. From 1956-59, he taught and served as principal of the Ballard School District. Wesley earned his master's degree from Colorado State College in August, 1954. In 1959, he was hired as Administrative Coordinator of the Economics Department at Iowa State University and settled with his family in Nevada. He retired in 1984, and made his home for several years in Sun City, Arizona.

Wesley was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Arizona. He enjoyed sports, his family, church activities, traveling, and the outdoors. He was an active member of Lions Club for over 50 years and had perfect attendance for 18 years.

Survivors include two children, Mary (Chester) Arthur of Ringwood, OK, and William (Kathy) Ebert of Washington; a granddaughter, Jodi Marie Ebert of Washington; and a nephew, Jack Langholz and his children Kyle, Kim, and Michelle.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 2008; his parents; a brother, Walter Ebert; and two sisters, Lenora Mathison and Luella Kuehl.
Memorials in Wesley's name may be directed to Memorial Lutheran Church or the Iowa Lions Foundation. Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Wesley and his family.
