Obituary

Norma Louise VanDenBosch, 85, of Story City, died Monday, May 5, 2014 at Bethany Manor. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames. Private burial of cremated remains will take place at the Brush Point Cemetery, Fertile, Iowa, at a later date.

Norma was born on October 23, 1928 in Fertile, Iowa at the home of her great grandfather, K.O. Sheimo; the daughter of Norman "Bud" and Lyra Deuel Oswald. She attended school in Fertile and graduated in 1946. Norma married Donald "Skinny" VanDenBosch on November 22, 1947. The couple moved to Ames where they owned and managed an assisted living home for several years. Skinny began working with H&F Builders where he died in a construction accident on September 18, 1967. Following Skinny's death, Norma began working as a receptionist for the Buck Dental Office and enjoyed meeting all the patients. She remained there until her retirement in 2002.

Norma's life was her grandchildren. Always a happy person, Norma really came alive with the arrival of her grandchildren. She enjoyed growing flowers and is remembered as always being sharply dressed and dancing at the Val-Air Ballroom with her friends.

Norma is survived by her son, Paul (Mary) VanDenBosch of Centennial, Colorado; grandchildren, Lori (Brian) Belden of Olathe, Kansas; Jami (Jeff) Langenfeld of Ankeny, and Zac VanDenBosch of Conroy, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Denise VanDenBosch of Huxley; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; sons, Mark, Bruce and Brian; and a brother, Bill Oswald.

As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Bethany Manor, who provided exceptional and loving care to Norma over the years. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com.
