Keith Cherry, 74, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Rolling Green Village in Nevada.
Keith was born March 9, 1940, in rural Warren County to Thomas and Mildred (Misner) Cherry. He graduated from Martensdale High School in 1958, and attended Iowa State College majoring in Chemistry and Physics. Keith later earned a degree from Marshalltown Community College in Computer Science. On August 11, 1963, Keith was united in marriage to his classmate, Rosalie Griffiths. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at Rolling Green Village in Nevada where Keith had resided since June of 2013.
Keith had worked for Ames Ready Mix, Hach Chemical, Iowa State University Chemistry Department, Donnelly Marketing and Communications Data Service. In his early years he volunteered building theatre sets for Iowa State Players and Ames Actors. Keith enjoyed assisting his neighbors with field work. He was an avid reader and enjoyed working with his sheep, gardening and his orchard. Keith earned several Iowa State Fair awards with his produce (fruit, tomatoes, onions and celery) and preserved (pickles, jams and jellies) entries.
As an active member of the Cambridge United Methodist Church, he participated in Sunday school, Bible studies and potluck fellowship. He volunteered using his skills to wire the church basement; do carpentry work; and design and help build the cement and stone handicapped ramp outside.
Keith is survived by his wife, Rosalie of Cambridge; his daughter, Laura (Jeff) Galbraith of Maxwell; his grandchildren, Sarah, Austin and Cody Galbraith; his brother, Jack Cherry of Adel; his sisters, Nelda (Rick) Morton of Mingo, Judy Pettinger of Des Moines and Patricia (Dean) Reeves of Springdale, Arkansas; three nieces; eight nephews; along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, Kirk Cherry.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at the Cambridge United Methodist Church in Cambridge with Pastor Andrea Severson officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cambridge United Methodist Church or the Dorcas Society in loving memory of Keith.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Grant Doolittle at McFarland Clinic in Ames and the entire staff at Rolling Green Village for their loving care of Keith.
