Addison Emmer Lough (1859-1920)

Addison Emmer Lough, son of Mr, and Mrs. Samuel Lough, was born in Greeley, Iowa, Delaware County May 25, 1859 and died March 11, 1920 at 7 a.m. in his home at Shipley. The cause of his death was pernucious anemia of which disease he was a patient sufferer for three years.

He moved with his people to Story County from Delaware county in 1876 at the age of 17 years.

He was united in marriage to Maria Jane Fry March 26, 1881, at the home of O.B. Fuller at Iowa Center. Three children were born to them,H.A. Lough of Wabasso, Minn., Clara Lough of Shipley, Iowa and Mrs. A.H. Vail of Guckeen, Minn.. He and his wife moved on the the Ephrem Brown place 3 miles north of Iowa Center. Mr. Lough worked the first year for Baldwin & Maxwell hauling goods from Colo to Iowa Center. The he bought and improved the 80 where Shipley is now located in the fall of 1889 and lived there 13 years and then sold to the Short Line Railway Co. In 1902 they bought their present home of A. J. Mills of Nevada which he also improved and where they continued to make their home until death call him. September 22, 1919, Mr. Lough was taken down with the flu and during that day he gave his heart to God and was converted. The next Sunday he was baptised with song and prayer by Rev. Miss Inman, pastor of the U.B. church, at his home in the presence of family and few friends.

He leaves to mourn his loss, the wife, one son, two daughters, one granddaughter and two brothers, F.B. Lough and C.W. Lough and one sister, Mrs. John M. Stratton, all of Nevada and a host of friends.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a most trustworthy neighbor and his friends were numbered only by his acquaintances.

Dearest father, thou hast left us
And your love we deeply feel,
But our God who has bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal.
