Emma May Mathison ws born May 14, 1883, in Grant Township near Nevada, the daughter of Jorgen and Bertha Peterson.
She was united in marriage to Marthinus P. Mathison, May 14, 1901. To this union were born two daughters, Leota Mathison and Vera Mathison Randau.
Mr. and Mrs. Mathison farmed in Story county until 1923 when they moved to Eagle Grove and later to Humboldt. They moved back to Story county in 1936 on a farm north of Ames where they lived until the death of Mr. Mathison in 1949. Mrs. Mathison and daughters then moved to Ames where she lived until her death.
Mrs. Mathison had been in the Story County Hospital since March 23, dying there June 9, 1959.
Surviving are one daughter, Miss Leota Mathison; one sister, Mrs. Mary K. Elliot of Nevada; one granddaughter, Joan, Mrs. Leslie Yates and two great grandchildren of Nuevo, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mathison was a member of the Giblert Lutheran church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1949, a daughter, Mrs. Vera Randau in 1952 and a brother, George Peterson in 1947.
