Pearl (Gross) Sutherland (1887-1961)

Pearl Gross Sutherland was born on March 22, 1987 at Gridley, Ill., the daughter of Samuel and Kathrine Gross.

At the age of six years she came to Iowa with her parents settling on a farm seven miles north of Nevada where they lived for seven years.

The family then moved to Kossuth County, near Titonka, Iowa, where Pearl stayed until she was seventeen years old. She then returned to Nevada to work.

In 1909 she was united in holy wedlock to Charles Guy Sutherland who preceded her in death on April 7, 1926.

To this union were born five children, two of whom died in infancy... Gerald and Aaron.

Surviving are her children, Harry and Leo Sutherland of Nevada, and Eva, Mrs. Ray Mills of State Center, Iowa. Also seven grandchildren; three brothers, Lloyd Gross of Dexter, Minn., Cephas Gross of Highland Park, Calif.; three sisters, Estella Pond of Nevada, presently in California, Edith Tarwater of Des Moines, Iowa, and Olive Harrison of Madrid, Iowa; also a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mrs. Sutherland was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church of Nevada, Iowa and faithfully attended this church until her health failed.

Those preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, three brothers, Elmer, Vern and Edward and her two sons, Gerald and Aaron.

Mrs. Pearl Sutherland died Saturday, March 18, 1901 at the Story County Hospital following a heart attack.
