Dorris Elaine Brooks
Sept. 10, 1924 to Oct. 16, 2004

Dorris Elaine Brooks, 80, of Des Moines, formerly of Nevada, died of complications from surgery on Saturday, October 16 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 19 at Chet Ryan Mortuary with Pastor Jame Louk officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Dorris' name for the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were entrusted to Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.

Dorris was born September 10, 1924 in Ames to Clinton and Jessabel (Larimer) Price. She was a 1942 graduate of Nevada high School. Dorris married LaVern A. Brooks on October 5, 1944 in Nevada. She retired from Donnelley Marketing in 1989. Dorris had been a resident of Des Moines for the past 15 years. She was a member of the Union Park United Methodist Church in Des Moines and past member of ABWA while living in Nevada. Dorris enjoyed reading, playing cribbage, doing crossword puzzles, and volunteering at Mercy Medical Center.

Dorris is survived by three sons, Dennis Brooks of Ventura, California, David (Linda) Brooks of Jupiter, Florida and Clinton Brooks of Jewell; two daughters, Connie Pierce of Waukee and Carol (Ted) Griffeon of Altoona; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and extended family, Steven Pierce, Cindy Brooks and Denise Risdal.

Dorris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband LaVern Brooks on November 25, 1968, and a sister Marian Eagle.
