MYRTLE BLANCHE WILSON

Myrtle Blanche Wilson, 92, died Tuesday, March 24, 1987, at Story County Hospital. She had been a resident of Long Term Care Unit for almost five years. Services will be Friday, March 27, 1987, at 11 a.m. at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Burial will be in the Nevada City Cemetery.

Blanche Wilson was born March 27, 1894, on a farm near Fernald to J.C. and Rose (Hyden) Hilburn. She was educated in country schools and the Fernald Consolidated School.

She was married to Charles F. Wilson Feb. 10, 1931, in Cedar Rapids. He had an insurance and real estate business and also served as mayor of Nevada for a time.

Blanche was active for many years in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fernald. She worked in the women's organization and served as organist, pianist and in singing duets and helping with the choir. After her marriage, she joined the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada and was active there and also in the Presbyterian Church were her husband was a member. At Memorial she was member of the Building Committee, and had served on the Remembrance Team, the Evangelism Team, the History Committee, and she wrote church items for the Nevada Journal. She was also very active in the Rebecca Circle of the Lutheran Church Women.

Blanche was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and also had belonged to the Nevada Woman's Club Garden and Hobby Divisions, the Soroptomist Club, the AM Bridge Club, the Story County Hospital Guild, and she served over 20 years on the Cemetery Board. She also helped start the Golden Agers Club and was active in other senior citizen activities.

During the Second World War, Blanche worked at the Ankeny Defense Plant. She had also worked at Donnelley Marketing and had been a local news reporter for the Nevada Journal.

Survivors include two step-children, Sara Margaret Wilson of Pep NM, James F. Wilson of Torrance CA; three brothers, Willis of Estherville IA, George of Odebolt IA, and Howard of Collins IA and Woodland Park Co; eight stepgrandchildren; ten step great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, on July 4, 1963; three brothers, Walter, Clarence and Charles; two sisters, Beulah Picht and an infant sister, Alice, and by her parents.

Cooper-Ryan Funeral home at Lincoln Hwy. and 5th St., Nevada, ia in charge of arrangements. The family received visitors on Thursday, March 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established for Memorial Lutheran Church at Nevada IA.
