Alyce Jean Moore passed away on January 2, 2014 at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames. Alyce was born on March 4, 1935, the youngest of seven children born to Clyde and Mary (Cooper) Oxley, She was born on the family farm near Maxwell and attend school in Maxwell, graduating in 1953.

She was active in girls six on six basketball and kept busy singing and playing piano. She accompanied soloists and groups and even played in a dance band for a time called The Melody Seven with other classmates. . . Jack and Alyce loved the music of the 30s and 40s and attended dances very often in their younger years. Alyce said she couldn’t remember when she couldn’t dance, probably learning from siblings at a very young age.

Alyce married John (Jack) Moore of Collins on June 13, 1953, at the Little Brown Church. They lived in Collins, Maxwell, and Nevada. Two children were born to this union, Marcia Moore of West Des Moines and Mary Lou (Gary) Flack of Nevada. Alyce is also survived by two grandchildren, Ryan (Carlee) Flack of Brookings, SD and Morgan Flack of Des Moines; and two nephews, John C. Oxley and Steven Faelz.

Alyce loved cooking and baking and liked to cook for her family at holiday time, she also enjoyed setting a pretty table. She was a great housekeeper and enjoyed all of her homes. She also spent lots of time helping care for her parents and brother, John, and babysitting her grandchildren whom her and Jack both adored.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack in 2010, 3 brothers, Robert, Curtis, and John and 3 sisters Mary Helen Beal, Corrine Faelz, and Maxine Koder.

Visitation with the family present will be held at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Sunday, January 5 from 3pm to 5pm. Funeral services will be at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada at 11 am on Monday January 6.

Burial will follow in Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell.

Memorials may be made to the Alyce Moore Memorial Fund..
