Charles Harry Callahan
Oct. 27, 1910-April 24, 1998

Charles Harry Callahan, 87, of Ames, died of respiratory failure Friday at Green Hills Health Care Center. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at Collegiate United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Cindy McCalmont officiating. Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Charles Harry Callahan was born in Kelley to Charles Edward and Lena Belle (Branning) Callahan. He lived for 20 years and Kelley and 68 years in Ames. He worked at Iowa State University as a poultry farm superintendent until his retirement in 1975. On June 18, 1936, he married Inez Mae Waterman in Hawarden; she died March 28, 1980. On Nov. 27, 1981, he married Nina Alleman in Ames; she died April 16, 1991. Mr. Callahan was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church for 45 years, Arcadia Lodge No. 249, AF&AM for 50 years, Laura Chapter of Easter Star for 50 years, White Shrine, Golden K Kiwanis and the ISU Alumni Association.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Callahan of Bursville, Minn., and Norman Callahan of Carmel, Ind.; two sisters, Gertrude Kabrick of Ruthven and Dorothy Carr of Ames; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two wives and two sisters.

Visitation is tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Adams Funeral Home, with Eastern Star services at 7:15 followed by Masonic services at 8 by members of Arcadia Lodge 249.

Memorials to a scholarship at ISU will be accepted at First National Bank.
