Verda L. Purvis
Sept. 26, 1902 to July 6, 1993

Verda L. Purvis, 90, of Nevada died of complications of diabetes at Story County Long Term Care, Nevada.

She was born in Nevada to Vinton I. and Dagmar (Jensen) Appelgate. She married Fay Purvis on July 20, 1921, in Des Moines. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. She was a sales associate at Bond's of Beaverdale in Des Moines and also worked for W.L. Tipton and Son in Nevada. She lived for seven years at Story County Long Term Care after moving from Des Moines.

Survivors include a son, Dr. James Purvis of Lexington, Mass.; a brother, Donald Appelgate of Nevada; a sister, Helen Robinson of Nevada; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fay; a daughter, Shirley Cernik; a brother, Claude Appelgate and a sister, Vivian Reder.

Funeral services will be held Friday at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada with Dr. James Purvis and Pastor Daniel Solomon officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada.
