Carrie Mildred Welty
July 14, 103 to Dec. 19, 1996Carrie Mildred Welty, 93, died Dec. 19, 1996, in extended care of the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. Cause of death was not listed.
She was born near Nevada on July 14, 1903, to John Solomon and Matilda Jane Fuller Mullihan. She graduated from Collins High School and attended Des Moines University.
She married Rex E. Welty on June 19, 1926, in Elkhart. They moved to California wher Carrie was involved in many activities including gardening and opening a flower shop. In 1942, they moved back to Iowa. They spent summers farming in North Dakota and moved to Des Moines during the winters. After three years in Missouri, they made a final move to the Nevada area in 1952. She lived in Nevada until moving to Osceola in 1984. She enjoyed traveling and had visited 19 countries and 47 states.
She was a life-member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Iowa, a 72-year member of the Collins-Rhodes Rebeccah Lodge and a member of the United Methodist Church in Osceola.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis (and James) Connell of Osceola; two granddaughters, Janice (and Roger) Shepard, of Creston, and Karen McCauley, of Osceola; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex, in 1967; two sister, Macy Cunningham in 1989 and Gola Carver in 1992 and great-granddaughter, Melinda McCauley in 1989.
Services were held Dec. 21, 1996, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Rev. L. Duane Churchman officiating. Interment was in the Nevada Cemetery.
